Meet a New Fan of E-Books :)

Hey guys :)

Did you know, that I love to take books with me wherever I can?
The reason for it is, that I love to read. I have to have the choice of at least two books in my handbag. (Yes my bag is really big :) )  Most of the time I have got an English and a German book with me. At the moment I am reading “The Slow Reward of The Silent Things” written by Patrick Rothfuss and “The Alchemist” written by Paulo Coelho. However, the books are not really light and handy. My shoulder starts to hurt after a while and unfortunately my beautiful handbag took some “injuries” from the sharp edges of the books. These are all reasons to change my reading habits for me  and to change from my hardcover books to a small e-book. However, I am not the kind of person that likes electronic gadgets and I was really sceptic about e-books. First of all, I thought that it must be annoying to charge the battery every day/week and imagine, while reading the battery might break down. This would be the absolute worst case scenario for me while reading. Secondly, what if you want to read outside, the sun is shining and reflects off the screen? How can you manage to see well when there is always the nasty sun as a pain in the neck? The third point against e-books is that they are electronic gadgets whereas I love to read in the bathtub, at the beach or IN the swimming pool on an air bed. However, I am a bit clumsy and sometimes it might happen that some splashes of water get on my books. Even though water is not good for paper, for the electrical appliances it is even worse. So I would definitely not take an e-book with me while lying in the bathtube. However, even though I am really in love with my hardcover books, sometimes I just let them drop to the floor, bed or somewhere else. Obviously I could never do this with an e-book. Therefore I thought that an e-book was not the right decision for me, on the contrary, I thought I would have ruined it within a few days.

Nevertheless, my mother believes that I am able to change my point of view, therefore she offered me to borrow her Tolino. This little, small, greyish thing is an e-Book. It is like a Kindle but whereas a Kindle is from the company Amazon, the e-Book from my mothers is only available in a Thalia-Shop and has not the huge amount of books that Amazon offers. However, my mother thinks it is good enough. She bought it last christmas and she is really proud to have her little e-book. My mother never leaves the house without her Tolino. So you can imagine what an honor it was for me to receive such an offer from her. Obviously she gave me a brief introduction on how to handle it right and warned me to take care of it. At first, it was a strange feeling to have a little tablet as a book. I have to admit, it is very light and handy. It fits in nearly every handbag and I do not have to charge it everyday. The battery lasts for a month! I have never imagined that this could be possible. Furthermore, the e-book has a special display, because of this it does not reflect the light. What is more, I can change the light intensity so it is very comfortable for my eyes. In addition the handling is very easy and I can flip the pages just by tapping on the screen.  Above all, I am able to connect the Tolino with wifi. I am using this function mainly for language learning, generally, every time there is a new word, I can click on the button “define” and I will get a definition of this word. To sum up, my first experience with my mothers e-book was unexpectedly great. However, I am a total fan of my 200 hardcover books in my bookshelf, I have to admit that an e-book is a great alternative to a book.
